SPEAKER_00We'll see you at Superzoo.
SPEAKER_02Welcome back to your favorite podcast, another grooming podcast. I'm Katie Austin.
SPEAKER_04I'm Juan Rivera. I'm one. I'm not one Rivera. I'm Ronnie Rivera.
SPEAKER_03What is happening today?
SPEAKER_04I'm holding in a burp.
SPEAKER_00Sorry.
SPEAKER_03I'm Kat Grady.
SPEAKER_00And I'm Nathan Austin.
SPEAKER_02Wow, good job. No, that was for Nathan. It was a good job, Nathan. He said, and I'm Nathan Austin. I don't know what happened, but this is a very special episode, everybody. I don't know if you've noticed, but this episode is dropping on a Friday. Weird.
SPEAKER_04Wait, why?
SPEAKER_02That's because on Sunday, Barkley Nominations comes up. It's time for our annual Barkley nominations episode. Do we have a special name? No. I mean, so I mean, since we've started, I feel like we've done a special episode going over the categories and different things that we've seen or heard of this year. You know, and so make your own informed choice when the nominations come out. If you haven't already signed up, go on to Barkley. We can add a link for you guys, but you can go on there and give them your email and stuff, and you'll get emailed a nomination form. So, you know, don't let us, you know, choose for you, choose with your heart. But these are just what we liked or heard of or whatever. Yeah, do your due diligence. We have do-do.
SPEAKER_00Doo do when we were like talking about the episode, we're like, oh, should we like not talk about certain things or talk about them? Let's just be organic. Let's just be less organic.
SPEAKER_07Like always. Are we gonna open with anything else? Or are we gonna just do that? Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. No, no, no. We are we are gonna, we do have a couple of questions that were left over from the hundredth episode because uh the questions that we read were so good that they took too long and we ran out of time because otherwise, I know you guys always say, like, oh, do two, three-hour episodes. I'm sure you could talk that long, but we don't want one to edit.
SPEAKER_00They definitely want to hear 30 minutes more about our favorite dinosaur.
SPEAKER_02For sure. For sure. So Alyssa asked, uh, what's your proudest moment of each other or yourself if you want? Uh, and that could be competition, life, whatever. And she said, Love you guys.
SPEAKER_07Oh, love you too. Love you too. Proudest moments of each other. Okay.
SPEAKER_02I thought I didn't see what you were doing, and I thought you were doing this.
SPEAKER_07I was trying to do the younger version.
SPEAKER_02I don't get that why they I'm like, uh No, I'm gonna do it old style because I'm old.
SPEAKER_07Okay. My so should we go like, should we all say our thing for cat? Should we all say or should we? Let's do that. Okay. Well, you can start.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um Let's do one thing, okay? No, no, no, I know because Katie's gonna say all the things and then fucking.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no. There's a lot. There's a lot. Um, actually, so I will just only do one because there's many, many things that come to mind. But most recently, I am really, really proud of you for your first place at the first Bishon national grooming competition. Um, because I know you worked really hard and you doubt yourself a lot, and um, you did a beautiful job, and you should be proud of yourself. So that was that's something I'm really proud of you for. And I could name a million other things, but I'll move on.
SPEAKER_07As a current uh fatty, currently, uh my I'm most proud of you for for sticking to it and losing the weight. You've lost so much weight, you seem happier, you have more energy. I just feel like I can see the confidence you have now, and that's really cool to see. So I'm very proud of you for that.
SPEAKER_02Nathan. Oh, Ronnie's actually sorry, Ronnie.
SPEAKER_00Um I was just as surprised as you were. I know.
SPEAKER_05I was like, I was like, wait, who goes next? Um uh mosaic. I'm really proud of you for that and your first breeding and everything, and your puppy fucker. Your puppy are doing shit. Yeah, whatever. Um yeah, you just do so well, and the puppies are doing well for did amazing, it's still about mosaic. Um, and all the things about mosaic, and I'm very proud of you.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. All right, Nathan. Now you have to think of something new.
SPEAKER_07It could be the same thing if you want.
SPEAKER_00I should have gone first. I was gonna say your first litter because that's a big deal. Yeah, yeah, it is. Um God damn it.
SPEAKER_02You could say that. Yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_00No, you said it already. I want to think of something new.
SPEAKER_02He wants it to be fresh.
SPEAKER_00I'm proud that you got a new vehicle.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. Okay, you got I mean, you have had the same old vehicle for quite a long time.
SPEAKER_00I think you've had that car almost as long as I've known you.
SPEAKER_03She had the cruiser, but the PT cruiser before that.
SPEAKER_02You knew her cruiser, but yeah. You have had that for a very long time. What channeling? Electric blue. Electric blue.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02And sitting in the back made you fucking sick.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It was one of those really no roots. No, no, no, that is really cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm very proud of you. For that's a big investment. So very, very cool. Cool. Thanks, guys. You're welcome. Now we're gonna do Nathan. Well, do we want to start from a different no for you? You don't have to do for yourself. Jesus. Oh, yeah. What are you?
SPEAKER_07Are you most part of something for yourself?
SPEAKER_05Fishing.
SPEAKER_02All those things. Okay.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_02We don't have to do for ourselves. I feel like it's too much. Uh, who wants to start for Nathan? Because I started last time.
SPEAKER_07I'll start for Nathan. Okay. Um, I think you getting onto Grim Team for the very first time, the first year was like, I was so we were both so proud of you. We flew to Atlanta to watch you. You know, we were there for 24 hours, but we're like true friends. We can't miss this. Like, we have to go. And you've been on it every year since, and you're just fucking killing it. And I'm very proud of you. Thank you. Yeah, that's awesome. Sometimes I forget about that.
SPEAKER_05Ronnie. There's so many things. How could you vehicle? I know. I know. I brought a new car. Um, yeah, I'm also I'm also excited. I'm glad that you got back into fishing. Yes, you know, and you're then it's like it brings you so much joy, and it's nice to hear you, you know what I mean? Like you're fish shish, like you just get you're the smile on your face when you're so so I'm I'm proud that you're doing that for yourself and that you're going and doing your fishing and having all that fun, but still doing what you love to do and compete and doing well still while doing that. You found place for both. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So that's yes.
SPEAKER_03I am proud of you for so many things, but the things that really stick out was your first uh best in show with Helios. I mean, uh just the amount of how much joy and like seeing you crying about that made me cry, it made everyone cry, and it would just like it really sticks out to me. Like it just seeing you put all this hard work into this and accomplish something so huge, and just being ever there to witness it was epic.
SPEAKER_00Thank you.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Um, I'm glad I got to go last, but uh I don't think I could pick one singular thing. I think it's because we're married. Um but watching you grow, it's gonna make me emotional. Um, from the person I met when I was 18 to the person you are today. Um, it's huge. You're a completely different person, and to see you be so successful at everything that you've wanted to do means a lot. So I'm really proud of you for all your hard work.
SPEAKER_00Thanks, babe. You're wondering. I don't like this anymore.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Well, good. We're moving on. Good. We're moving on. I feel like this should have been our Thanksgiving episode. Yeah. Because we're all getting a little emotional about it. Katie.
SPEAKER_03Okay, Katie. We're going this way. Well, you went first.
SPEAKER_02So then Ronnie. Uh Ronnie, your least favorite person, you get to go first for.
SPEAKER_05Oh, is it your turn? Yeah. Um, no, I love you, you ding that. Um you ding bat. You ding bat.
SPEAKER_02I just think of it in her uh the dance mom's voice. Yeah, ding bat every minute. I ding bat.
SPEAKER_05Um uh just everything you do in general is great. You know what I mean? Like, I'm proud of everything. I'm proud of like you getting back in the ring this year and succeeding and everything, you know what I mean? Getting out of there. And I know, you know, it's you you always sometimes put yourself down as well. It's like, no, the other people, but you you do have the potential to compete against them. You're an open for a reason, you're doing everything you are doing for a reason, and it proves, and you're just gonna the more you continue, it's gonna be better. And I'm so excited to see what you do with your new cute ass puppy in the ring. Like, you know, so that's what I'm that's great, you know. Thank you. And I love you, and you're amazing.
SPEAKER_03Okay, my turn. Where should I start? But uh I can only do one thing. Um you and your growth after for so much. I mean, we've known each other since we were youngins, and who thought you'd be here? Owning three businesses, uh teaching all over the world, um, with the love of your life, being a wonderful mom, all these things you've you know, as young whippersnappers. Um, I never thought we'd still be friends after all these years. Me neither. And I'm grateful. I am grateful. And just seeing you blossom into such a wonderful person.
SPEAKER_02Thank you.
SPEAKER_03And I'm gonna stop now. Nathan.
SPEAKER_07Do you want to finish and I'll go next?
SPEAKER_00No, I'll go. Okay, okay. I'm like feeling really uncomfortable. He's feeling really anxious, like he's being called on and like this whole thing is like fruit is like kind of freaking me out right now.
SPEAKER_02Um It better be a good one, Nathan, or I'm gonna be angry. I'm sorry. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00The expectation I'm just gonna do.
SPEAKER_05I feel his anxiety too, because there's so much you want to say. Then if you don't say the right thing, then it's like you're so proud of everything, and it's just like I just wanted to get each other on and on.
SPEAKER_03Well, it was very hard.
SPEAKER_05That's the thing is like it was very hard on this year things.
SPEAKER_06You guys are talking about the past, and I'm I'm like, this past year, this like exactly what am I supposed to say?
SPEAKER_00Because like I'm I mean, I'm supposed to sum up like the mother of my children somehow. Like, how do you I can't okay?
SPEAKER_01Pick from pick from this year. Pick from this.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I think of j if I'm just talking about proud of you, um, I like I mean, I'm I'm really proud that you f are uh found something that you like when you're exercising. I feel like that's huge. Yes, and um I'm proud that you're still doing it and that you uh enjoy it so much. It brings me a lot of joy knowing that you're happy and seeing your confidence and seeing um I really love that. And um I mean that's like pretty phoning it in, but like that's something I'm truly proud of you. That's recent and like Yeah, that's a good one.
SPEAKER_03It was on yeah, it was on my list.
SPEAKER_02I was like, oh that uh there's too many for all many. We're all so proud of each other.
SPEAKER_07I don't know anyone else who juggles as many things as you do. Like, like Kat said, you you, you know, you guys have the three businesses, you have kids, you have uh a couple houses, you just like you're traveling, though you have so much on your plate, and you guys do and you do it like wonderfully. You are like the best wifeer for Nathan. You know, like you keep him in check, you keep the kids in check, you keep the business in check, and then you're still finding time for yourself and doing the you just the way you balance, I'm sure it's overwhelming as fuck. Um, but like the way you handle it and the way you do it is just I'm really proud of you for like you being able to do so many things and still find like the joy in life. Because like I it's just it's awesome to see because after like one thing, I'm like, I'm exhausted. But then Katie's like this and this and this and this and this. And I'm in Canada and I'm over here and I'm over here. And you know, it's just like it's really cool to see. I'm very proud of you. I think you you you handle it very well, and yeah.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. All right. Well then I think Juan is next.
SPEAKER_03I get a half at the start. There's so many things, you know. I feel like I've known you for a lifetime, even though what has it been? Five years?
SPEAKER_06Five years. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I feel like I've known you forever, but I mean, I'm gonna go with it's amazing how much you do for our podcast. For one, you do all this editing, the most, and the you do the most, and you do it so well, and you do it amazing, and you don't bitch about it. And it this podcast anyways not just to you guys. I know, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06But remember that time?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I do. But how much you do for this, and it wouldn't be the same without you. So we wouldn't have this if it wasn't literally without we couldn't do it without you.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, thank you. Um you took my thing. We could repeat. Um I'm just proud. I mean, I I don't know. I don't know. I'm just happy that you are honestly like my friends. You know what I mean? Yeah. I'm just proud to have you as a friend, you know? I'm glad you're in my life, and I'm glad that the podcast is going where it is. Um I'm really proud of the work that you put in and how like you edit the videos and stuff, and like it's just like it when I see that the stuff you're doing and you're like, oh, I gotta go home and do this. To me, I'm like, I would never. You know what I mean? Having a time limit on it, like it has to be done now, and I have to go home. Like, I would never be able to do that. Like I could seem somehow do the things that I do like randomly, but like I'm also really uh something that happened that I was really proud uh I was really proud of was you guys doing the uh I'm doing two things, I guess. The the photography stuff at the thing, I thought that was really cool. Really good initiative, and you just like get it done. I thought that was really cool. And the also the um the work on it was just so good and like the bar where you guys like you always just have this bar of excellence that I just think is really impressive. Thank you.
SPEAKER_06You know, thank you, thank you.
SPEAKER_02I'm somewhat piggybacking on that because one of the things that I like find so admirable about you that I like when I'm you know, when I'm aiming to do the things I'm doing, I'm thinking like, how could I do it more like you and Ronnie too? But like you're so organized. You make these lists, you follow your list, you write everything down. You're like, you're so organized, and I really strive to be more like you. But like on top of that, just watching your growth, you know, like being there for your best in show win at Cali Groom was like such a huge moment. It meant a lot that like all of us were there to celebrate with you because you guys have truly been there for us for all of our big moments, too. And so I feel like being there to witness like that beautiful win just meant so much more, you know, and like getting the to be there for that was incredible. But then just watching your growth too. And I love that you have these things and you don't step away from them, right? Like you're like, we want to relax more this year, and you did it, right? Like we want to be home more, we want to work on our own business, we have our own things, and like I think that's incredible. You know what I mean? Like, you didn't let anybody push you into doing things you didn't want to do, or you know what I mean? Like, and I think that's beautiful, and I I really admire that about you. And also, I know I'm doing multiple things, but um, I know you're still in training for it, right? But becoming a certifier with IPG, I like I'm so proud of you for that. So I'm really, really grateful to have you in my life and to be able to witness all of these beautiful growth moments. Thank you. Love you. I love you. Okay, wait, did Ronnie go? No, Ronnie.
SPEAKER_05Lay on. I love you. I love you too. You're so beautiful and you do so much work, and I see it all the time because I just see you at your computer. Yeah, I hear you guys' voices all the time.
SPEAKER_01Literally, it's haunting you.
SPEAKER_05It's either because of the way he like cuts the video and gets like the preciseness of everything. And then um, yeah, no, I just I love you just personally. It's hard, you know. Like, what am I supposed to choose? Like, it's everything. You're amazing. I love you. Thank you. That's why I need to die before you. Thank you.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. Thank you. Okay, it's Ronnie. And Nathan gets to go first for this one. Yeah, there you go. No one's gonna steal your stuff. Go for it.
SPEAKER_00Uh I uh I'm I know what you guys think I'm gonna say.
SPEAKER_02Uh-oh. Is it his big dick?
SPEAKER_00I'm the most proud. Uh no, I'm actually proud. I'm actually proud. Something that that actually brought me, brought me the because this is supposed to be what we're proud of about the other person, right? And what I'm truly proud of and was happy that happened, is I'm really happy that you caught a fish on the camping trip.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00Like, I when that happened, when like that was like kind of the goal, is like I catch fish, but then I also get people around me because I feel like I get such joy out of it. And when I see other people enjoying it, it like bring it like you know, like cla I don't know, it's just that's collaborative joy. And when seeing the smile on your face when you finally got it, and you're like, hey, Kuntin, look at I got I I did it, you know what I mean? And I'm like, all right, so I that that was my that's mine.
SPEAKER_06Um I like hearing him say Kunten. That was I was on the floor. That's what he did.
SPEAKER_05He was like, I turned around and was like, Kunt, I got a fish. Yeah, yell to the whole lake that I caught a freaking fish. Yeah, I did not think I was gonna catch one. It was yeah, so I was very excited when I did. And thank you for teaching me. The fly was really fun. Yeah, it was very fun.
SPEAKER_02Very fun.
SPEAKER_05They're so cute when they spur spin in the water.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I love the flies. I love shopping for them. I feel like it could be a really uh if we started making them, it would be bad, bad news, you know.
SPEAKER_05Just sitting here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's a it's actually a thing that it's a couple people have told me to get into, and I'm like, no, definitely not.
SPEAKER_02We'll become obsessed.
SPEAKER_00Need another hobby. No, I do not need no more hobbies.
SPEAKER_02Um, okay, so for me, I'm gonna leave the big one, but for me, it's all the behind the scenes things that you do because I know that there's a lot of things that you're doing for us and for the podcast and for everybody. And you never try to like take the light for like, oh, I did this for somebody or I did that. Like you just do these things for people because you love them genuinely and you want it makes you feel, you know, like you want to do something nice for somebody, you know, like making mosaic stuff for cat or helping out with the podcast stuff and making uh, you know, all of us shirts and different, you know, like all the things that you're doing behind the scenes that are just so kind and like from your heart, and you're never asking for recognition for all those little things that you do. And I see them and we love you for them. So thank you.
SPEAKER_05Thank you. Sorry, I'm trying not to talk because I'm getting emotional. So if I'm looking weird, that's why.
SPEAKER_02That's okay. But also locking eyes with you.
SPEAKER_05Um that was a that was a big moment. That was a big one. That was a big one. So that was a really special.
SPEAKER_02But like I said, I'm gonna leave that for somebody else.
SPEAKER_07I think I'm gonna leave that for somebody else too. If no one says it, we'll go back to it. Yeah, if no one says it, we'll go back. I am most proud. Okay, so it's no secret Ronnie's an asshole. It's it's no secret. I he's self-proclaimed. He, you know, uh he he blames his Virgo-ness. Um, but I know that Ronnie most of the time would rather work on things himself. Yeah. And would rather not count on anybody else and rather just do it. But the way those these last few years he's learned to like work with other people and like kind of take criticism and like, but still like be like confident enough to like say what you want to say. And like you do so much for the podcast, but you also do so much for me at home. Like, you run our household essentially, and you take care of all the animals, you take care of me, you cook for me every day. You love me. Protect you from bears. Like I just I love you with my whole heart, and I feel like I had no idea that when we first got together, like we would grow into like what we have. And I just love you so much, and I'm so glad you're my husband.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I know.
SPEAKER_07You fucking asshole.
SPEAKER_02I know.
SPEAKER_00What are we doing right now?
SPEAKER_02Well it's Kat's turn. We're supposed to be talking about nomination. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00What is happening?
SPEAKER_02We're nominating ourselves for love. I think this is this is it, right?
SPEAKER_03So yeah, I'm the last one. Um I mean, there's so much I am proud of you for, and I'm so most of all I'm proud of that I get to call you my friend. Because when we first met and we were hanging out together, I thought you hated me. And I thought you It's because I'm an asshole. I know. It's like he hates me. You know, I'm trying to be friend, but he hates me. Um not only I was gonna say originally, I was like all the things you do behind the scenes, like Katie, you know, how for the Bichon picnic, the things you made and all the detail, how detail-oriented you are, and how you show your love and affection by making us all these awesome things that I have no talent to make. And you're you know, you're utterly amazing and crafty and kind, and even though you're an asshole to most, you're one of you're my favorite asshole. And I love how you defend us, you know, if we, you know, if someone's doing us wrong. Uh that's one of my favorite things about you. He's a ride or die for ride or die.
SPEAKER_02One of my favorite things, you're right.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and how he yeah, we'll stand up for you or you know, just not take shit for you if especially as someone who's more reserved and don't speak up for myself, how you defend defend us. And in this year, how you won your first creative, you put your whole heart and soul into it and you rocked it. And seeing that moment of you win was epic.
SPEAKER_05Thank you. Yeah. That was you know what I really regret? Not regret. One time Nathan asked me something about what my favorite thing was, and I said something else, and I wish I would have said looking at you guys when I won.
SPEAKER_03That meant a lot. God damn it. We have to stop this.
SPEAKER_07Thanks, Alyssa. Okay, well, let's let's take a moment. Commercial break. Here we go. When it comes to grooming tools, some brands earn their reputation, and Le Pooch has been doing just that for nearly 30 years. From their iconic brushes made right here in the USA to their luxurious shampoos and cream rinses developed in the south of France, every product is designed with quality and performance in mind. Their signature flexible brush heads, polished standless steel pins, and ergonomic handles make brushing more effective and comfortable, while their concentrated shampoos and conditioners leave coats clean, soft, and easy to manage. If you're ready to upgrade your grooming routine with tools trusted by professionals around the world, check out Lay Pooch.
SPEAKER_02All right, now that we've all told each other how much we love each other, and I hope that you guys at home could really feel the love and how much we really mean to each other and care about each other. And I hope you have somebody in your grooming community that makes you feel that way too. And if you don't, find them. Uh, now we're gonna launch into Barkley nominations. Let's do it. So for anybody who doesn't know, um, Barclay holds many grooming shows a year. We've talked about them many times. Um, but their show Groom Expo, they do a big awards dinner and they host the Barkley honors. And um it's really fun because they have different categories. And then we, all the groomers, get to nominate our favorite people or businesses or whatever. And um, we go on and vote later, and hopefully your favorite person wins. And it's a big honor. You get to go up and give a speech and get a medal, and it's just really, really fun. Wear pretty clothes. Yeah, you can you can you don't have to, you could wear whatever you want, but we use it as a good opportunity to dress up and be pretty because you know, when else do we get to wear a ball gown for fun stuff?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I always say it's like the doggra Oscars. Yes. And I always tell people when I'm dress shopping, I'm shopping for an award show. Yeah. You ain't lying.
SPEAKER_02No. Okay, so uh the first category is new book of the year. I feel like this is always a tough category. It always feels like um I'm like, are we just not paying attention enough?
SPEAKER_03Or like well, I'm not a reader or a book person at all, whether it be a guide to anything or I just it's just not me. Yeah, yeah. So I obviously I don't really have an opinion on this category.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. There I do know there was one book. Um I did buy it. I haven't had we haven't had the opportunity to read it yet. Um, it's not about grooming, but it's written by a groomer. So it's like a fantasy fiction about a dog groomer. So I do oh my god, my phone is translating everything I'm saying. It's a bit into what language? No, it's like it's oh it's dictating for you, dictating describing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, I don't know any books. I don't know books too well for you.
SPEAKER_03So there's that book, but have there been any like guides or anything like that that you know of?
SPEAKER_07There's a uh book that I'm gonna butcher the last Denise uh H. Oh, yes, wrote a book on like a business plan. Like I think it's like how to like start a business and like what steps to take. I also have not read that one, but I know written by a groomer, it's new this year.
SPEAKER_02So if anybody has any books that they've heard of that came out this year, let us know. We'd love to know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, drop it in the comments.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, drop it in the comments so that when nominations come out, we can take a peek and see who we would like to nominate. So the next category is Journalist of the Year.
SPEAKER_03Again, I don't read, so in magazines as well.
SPEAKER_07Um I'm gonna do two. I I nominated the same two, or I said the same two people last year. Uh Lynn Paulillo, every ever I think ever almost every issue of Groom Groomer. Um, she has an article on cat grooming, and I she's one of the certified master cat groomers and a certifier for the organization. And she's just so knowledgeable. And the way that she just writes is really easy to follow. She's great. And the winner of last year, uh Jennifer Bishop Jenkins, she did education for years. I think she was a teacher for like 30, 35 years. Um, and so I really resonate with her teaching style and like how she writes. And I mean, obviously she won last year, so she's great.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think like if somebody has been getting the Groomer to Groomer magazine and you've been reading through that magazine, and I don't I think a lot of us probably read it and don't look at who's been writing the articles. So if there was a particular article that really stuck out to you that you appreciated or you felt like you learned something, go back, you know, see who wrote that article and nominate them. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07So you can go back like I think like 15, 20 issues. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So I think you can check them out for the whole year. Or if you haven't already and you want to go flip through and see who's been writing articles, go for it.
SPEAKER_03I read my magazine like this.
SPEAKER_02All right. So the next category is up and coming speaker. And so the way that up and coming speaker works is that it's actually not nominated by the people. I believe Barclay Productions, um, they all like put in a nomination for that category. So um I think after they make their nominations, we are allowed to vote on it, if I recall correctly. Um, but they do the nominating for that since they are in charge of the speakers. So and then there's speaker of the year. So there's an up-and-coming, and then there's speaker of the year, but everybody gets to vote nominate and vote on speaker of the year. Um, and so this is you know, your teachers, your seminar speakers. I nominate Nathan and Kathleen Austin.
SPEAKER_03I was gonna say that. I was gonna say that. Oh wow, thank you.
SPEAKER_00That is definitely one that I want because, like, I mean, I want the funny ones too, but I want also to be taken seriously. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, you are a serious educator and you do.
SPEAKER_00But there's a lot of people, thank you, but there's a lot of people that are like deserving of it, you know?
SPEAKER_02There's a lot of really great speakers out there for sure. Um so if you've taken a seminar this year and you really appreciated one of your speakers, make sure to nominate them. Definitely, it is something that we would like to win at some point. Teaching is one of my favorite things that we do, and I would love to at some point be recognized for that.
SPEAKER_00So I used to like absolutely hate it.
SPEAKER_02Like in the beginning, he was like, I just want to quit.
SPEAKER_00I mean, you guys remember when we did the one in in uh in um San Diego? I was literally like shaking before I went out, and there was eight people or ten people or something like that.
SPEAKER_07Well, the very first one, yeah. The first one, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And now I could walk in front of 200 people and just fucking speak because I don't know. It's it's amazing what well.
SPEAKER_02I think we have so many things. The podcast helps, right? Because like we are speaking a lot and making your funny videos helps. But then the more you teach, the more comfortable you get.
SPEAKER_00Something we people kept saying, and I was like, Are you lying? They're like, You guys are such good public speakers.
SPEAKER_02And I'm like, Everybody says that, and we're like, Really?
SPEAKER_00Are you sure? One girl was like, Yeah, you don't say um or what or roll on your words, and I was like, Really? I think that practice might come from here from the podcast.
SPEAKER_02So you know I said um earlier, and then I was like, Oh my god, I said um, because I thought about her saying that because she this was just in cannabis. She was like, You don't say um in your classes, and I was like, I don't.
SPEAKER_00This is a quick like little side thing. One of my pet peeves is when Katie says um at the drive-thru. I'm like, I'm like, Katie, what do you want from McDonald's? And she goes, uh um because I'm taking a second too. I'm literally about to jump out of my skin.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03Because Nathan always says it's the same menu every time. Really? No, it is not. No, it's sometimes McDonald's McDonald's. What do they have this morning?
SPEAKER_05They had a special sandwich at McDonald's this morning, so it threw me off for that one second, and then I got that $7.
SPEAKER_07And then I say, look online, look online. The menu's online, go to the app.
SPEAKER_04It's different in person. It is.
SPEAKER_03So now when I go through drive-throughs and shit, I I pre-order on my app. So that way it also got points. Uh they just have like a new bread, like a staple bread.
SPEAKER_05It's basically it's like brown sugar, maple, it's a honey something, uh, breakfast biscuit, but it's uh bacon and egg on a biscuit. Okay, okay. Well, with honey all over it. So I was like, oh, let me try it.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so uh the next category will come as a surprise to all of you. It's podcast of the year. Hmm. I don't know. Is that a good one? I wonder who we think should be nominated for that category. Maybe we'll just let it speak for itself. Maybe.
SPEAKER_05I mean, what are you holding cat? What does that say?
SPEAKER_03It says another grooming podcast.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's cool. Sounds like a pretty good podcast. Maybe that one, maybe a good nomination.
SPEAKER_00I do, I am happy that there is still like you know, people come and like I'm starting a new podcast and stuff. So it's good that there's like um yeah, there's been a lot of new ones.
SPEAKER_02There's been a lot of new ones this year, so very cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05But I think again, with everything that we've just talked about when we're crying, and we do put a lot of work into this and everything. So And we do love each other, yeah. And just to be nominated and everything, just you know, it means a lot. Yeah, it means a lot to us and everything. And regardless, at the end of the day, if we get nominated win or not, in the beginning of this episode, we have everything we need. So you know, that's that's that's the great thing. And we have you guys at the end of the day.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we have all the viewers, and if we just help one or two people, it makes it makes it worth it.
SPEAKER_00Even though it's like a lot of people, I think it's uh I think you know, like there's been more like that have stopped than than kept going, you know, and I think that like says a lot, like it's uh you know, you'll see a new podcast and it's raising up and then all of a sudden it implodes for one reason or another.
SPEAKER_02Or it just stops, it's a lot of work, it's a lot of work.
SPEAKER_00We make it look easy or something. Yeah. I do, I don't, I don't want to think that, but I do think we do like people see it and they see like, oh, that looks easy, and they're like, we're gonna do a podcast, and they do like three episodes.
SPEAKER_05Like, oh yeah, that's like people who work with us first and then go somewhere else and they know they had a good like you know, like an employee, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03Where you know like I eventually, yeah.
SPEAKER_05It's just like I mean, hey, he still got to go with you guys, so you guys pay him.
SPEAKER_07We didn't.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we didn't pay for it. Oh my god, that's so funny. He paid for room and board with his washing.
SPEAKER_00Like we pay you one over 100% more. Yes.
SPEAKER_02So he had the Ronnie special. Exactly. He got the Ronnie special. Yes, he did.
SPEAKER_07Oh my god, am I labor laws?
SPEAKER_03Family the family, family, and you yep, write it in a place to live and food and I'm just kidding. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay, anyway. Uh next is Foreign Speaker of the Year.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02Um, so I mean, we have a lot of, I feel like this year in particular, we've had a lot of um people coming over, which I thought has been very cool. One of my favorite people is Jovi. So she's been teaching a lot this year, I think. And I love her. I think she's a wealth of knowledge, and I think she would be great nomination for that category. I agree.
SPEAKER_07That's what I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Joey.
SPEAKER_07I was so excited when I saw I didn't go to Tacoma, but I saw that she had a class there, and I was like, And she's got one in Hershey, right?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. She has one in Hershey. I think she has one in All American as well. I think she's doing.
SPEAKER_05Oh, and congratulations on her best in show. Yes. No, no, Jackpot. Jackpot. Jackpot. I'm so sorry. Jackpot. I apologize.
SPEAKER_00Um who farted?
unknownWho farted?
SPEAKER_05Probably you.
SPEAKER_00Um it could be that up.
SPEAKER_02We're not including that in the episode. I've just said maybe I got it.
SPEAKER_00No, it was just a quick whiff of fart, so I know it's a fart. I haven't been here in this whole time. Who subjected me to that?
SPEAKER_03I would admit it if it was me. It was not me.
SPEAKER_02And of course, there's always Nadia. I would say Nadia. She's a great speaker.
SPEAKER_00What's funny with the Canadians? I'm like, those are not foreign. Those are not foreign.
SPEAKER_03Compet fellow competitors. Like we said, I know, but they do consider them to be. You know, it's hard for me because I don't really attend um classes. Classes, you know. I do mostly I sit on Katie and Nathan's for like 10 minutes and then I'm out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But I haven't really attended any classes this year, so it's hard. But yeah, I know Nadia is a wealth of knowledge, and Jovi is also just a wealth of knowledge, and they're both great people who Colin's been out a lot this year as well.
SPEAKER_02He teaches a great class. He's also a wealth of knowledge.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I like I like learning from Colin as well.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I just like listening to his voice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh what yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh I do uh Lisa Hart is somebody, but uh, I don't know how much she's been out this year, so I don't know. Maybe if she hasn't been out, maybe it's not appropriate, but I mean if she is has been out, then it's definitely appropriate. I'm not I'm not exactly sure though.
SPEAKER_02All right, so the next category is content creator of the year. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03There's someone else that's sneakingly suspicious about that one.
SPEAKER_00There has been some like newbies coming in. Um and like I feel like some of the old hitters are like kind of falling off, you know what I mean? Except for you. I am trying my best not to fall off, but I feel like I kind of sometimes like uh when we were in Master Groom Canada, like I didn't post for over a week. And like my first post was immediately like the reach was Instagram or like Facebook will tell me your reach is down 80%. I'm like yeah, fuck you, Facebook, and then like I'm just like stressed, you know, like so I'm like fuck you, Facebook. As soon as I open it, it's the very top in the stories that like it takes over one of the stores. You're a stupid bitch who fucked up, and um, so I mean, I mean, I would always be honored to be uh nominated for that. Um, and there's some new people coming in, some older people going out. So I'm interested to see who's on there. I would be very happy if I was on there though.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely, yeah. No, I mean there I do agree with you. There's a lot of new people up and coming right now, very cool. Um, but well, that's also you are my favorite still.
SPEAKER_03Well, both of you are. I think I should list both of you because you're on a lot of his videos, and I see the hard work you put into it, and I understand why people like the oldie fizzle off, right? It's hard, it's a lot of work, and you know, it's a lot of time, dedication, uh thinking about all this shit, um, coming up with your own adaptations of things, and it's just a lot of work. Editing content, editing content. Like, I just I don't have the patience. I've tried social media, yeah. It's just not me.
SPEAKER_02We've talked about burnout, right? How we were getting burned out on the podcast, and like you're on your like I'm gonna fight for my life. You're on your like fourth year, and it's hard. We're fighting burnout all the time.
SPEAKER_00Me and Marcia were having a big we conversated about it a lot. It was a comment, it was a good, it was a subject that we shared a lot in the master room.
SPEAKER_02Well, because it's true, it's it's a lot. A lot of people at home, same as the podcast, don't realize like how much time and work and effort and thought you're putting into it. It's a full-time job on top of all of our full-time jobs.
SPEAKER_00Is there an up and coming uh content creator?
SPEAKER_02That would be cool, Evan, if you're listening. I think that would be a good uh up and coming content creator would be a fun category to add.
SPEAKER_05And up and coming creative, because that should be that should be hard, bro.
SPEAKER_00So you know I think having more it just needs to be equal across the board.
SPEAKER_02I think there should be two uh yeah, more nominations to bring people up. Yeah, to elevate those people that are working on it.
SPEAKER_03But if you want to strive, you know, well, they've gotten rid of some over you know the last two years.
SPEAKER_02Well, they they added a couple and took a couple, yeah.
SPEAKER_03So I think they should add more.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So anyway, if you have a content creator that you really love following, uh nominate your favorite. Only if it's Nathan.
SPEAKER_07No I'm not gonna say anybody else because I'm voting for her.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm that's it'll always be.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, I feel bad. I don't know. I don't want to buzz.
SPEAKER_03I mean, there are a lot of talented people out there, but for sure Nathan and Katie obviously have my vote because same. I see how much and I actually enjoy their videos.
SPEAKER_00There's some that I'm like it would be nice if it was uh if the nomination was for Nathan and Katie and not just Nathan, because uh Katie actually does a lot of work when it comes to my She writes a catch. And I'm saying my content like like uh liberally, like you know?
SPEAKER_02They are just they're one person. I'm very behind the scenes on that one.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Let's be honest. Most grooming smocks are made to be practical, but that doesn't mean they have to be boring. That's where Ladybirdline comes in. Their smocks and aprons are made with durable, water, and chemical-resistant materials, while giving you flattering fits, fun patterns, and styles you'll actually want to wear. Whether you're grooming all day or heading to a show, Ladybirdline proves you don't have to choose between function and style. And don't forget, shipping is free on US orders of $75 or more. When you can recognize a design, that's Ladybirdline. Visit their website at www.ladybirdline.com.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so next is Standout Video of the Year. Okay, so this could be anything. And I would like to say I would love to see not just one of Nathan's videos nominated, but I would love to see one of our podcast videos nominated as well. I didn't even think of that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you know, because like an episode?
SPEAKER_02Or either it, I don't know if they would do a full episode just because they could be so long. But like I pop and panic video. That pop and panic video got a lot of love. But I mean anything. I mean, even if it was a whole episode that somebody loved from this year, I would love to see the podcast uh nominated for one of our videos, whether it be one of our social media videos or a full episode.
SPEAKER_00I think the pop and panic thing is a contender. It got a million over a million views on the 1.6 million views.
SPEAKER_03Well, and it's fucking hilarious. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And the comments were fucking great.
SPEAKER_02Some of the comments were uh a little much, but that's okay. We're a little much. Um, but you also had a lot of really good videos this year. A lot of there.
SPEAKER_03Any standout to you out of your videos that you thought I mean, I I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I I mean I've had a couple I've had a quite a few maybe this go viral this year, over a million, but like it's like it uh once there's over a hundred comments, I don't read them no more. But like uh when I did, I I I collabed. I clap I collabed Logan with the video.
SPEAKER_06Oh, the butt one.
SPEAKER_00The button was funny. And then there were several comments like, oh, this is my for video of the year. And like, I mean, that'd be cool. And it'd be cool if like if Logan was nominated if he came. Like I I actually pretty interested if he would come. And like, because I don't think they've come the last couple times, right? Last couple years.
SPEAKER_02Um, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Gable or Logan.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, I think you've put out a few videos this year that people were like, This is it, this is the nomination. It's so funny.
SPEAKER_00Last year it was Evan's video, which wasn't a humorous one. It was a fun, it was like an inspirational, like it was very heartwarming video. Yes.
SPEAKER_03But it can be educational, it could be funny, it could be Yeah, it could be anything.
SPEAKER_02I mean, there's been a lot of good videos out there this year, so it's it's a that's a really tough category, I feel like. Because it could be anything. It could be a fast video, it could be a short video. I mean, and groomhouse groomhouse long form, short form. Groomhouse is all. Long form, yeah. Groomhouse has great.
SPEAKER_00Grimhouse is always coming out with great stuff. Like it could be anything.
SPEAKER_02It could be anything. So anything you're heart nominate, whatever it is that's a good idea.
SPEAKER_00We'll just get rid of books and put another video in there. Well, there used long form videos.
SPEAKER_02For anybody who doesn't know, there did used to be two. There used to be educational and Entertainment. Entertainment.
SPEAKER_00So now there's one. I would like, I mean, I do think that's a big thing.
SPEAKER_02I think they should really I think they should put it back.
SPEAKER_00No, that's what I mean. I think it's better if it'd be two separate.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah. Evan, we not we dominate two videos. Um okay. So then after that is um new product of the year. I would like, oh no, go ahead.
SPEAKER_07Uh the Antimatter by Group. I was gonna say that.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_07It's new this year.
SPEAKER_03It's so it's I love it. Yeah. I love it a lot. And uh, this is gonna be after. No, this is gonna be aired before. Okay. So also they just donated some to our uh our booth for a raffle praises. And I'm gonna try to win it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so we do. We can enter the raffle as well. For anybody who comes.
SPEAKER_00I feel like if one of us wins, we have to donate it back. Is that not a well then I'm not gonna buy the raffle ticket?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so come to our booth if you want an antimatter mat with Gromhouse. Grill House graciously donated them, so um, they will be raffled off. And yeah, or buy one. They're incredible, they're worth the money.
SPEAKER_00I have my own mat from I have my own paw mat, and I I still like you could hesitate to say it, but antimatter is like the one that I use. They're different, they're different. They're different. You can't really compare them. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03They have their own. I mean they're both mats, but that's it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, they when I'm using qualities.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, when I'm using the one on a day-to-day, I use the antimatter. When I take a picture, I'll move and use and use the uh the Nathan Austin Palmat, but what about any other products you can think of?
SPEAKER_02I'm trying to think what's new. Like there's so many products I love, but I know Aeolis has their new um recirculator. Um, the the groomjets behind me for anybody watching. And then they also have a new pair of clippers, I believe.
SPEAKER_00Um But Sumi now has gold uh they have the pink line combs, you know, that everyone loves and everyone loves the copy. They also they have a gold version of it now.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, they have like a gold version.
SPEAKER_00I opened them. I opened them and I was like, hmm, just put it in my drawer because like I just don't want to damage them, you know. I mean, they're really tough, but like they're so pretty.
SPEAKER_02I'm like, oh you just save them for competition. Is it still pink in the middle?
SPEAKER_03I think it'd be cool if it was black or something.
SPEAKER_01It's pink, yeah. I don't think they want to step away from there.
SPEAKER_03Like yeah, their signature. I'm trying to think, like, if uh it was like what's new this year? Like, there's so many things that I keep bringing up, and I was like, that was last year. It was last year's.
SPEAKER_00Colin has some stuff that he that people are really happy about. I heard people talking about it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think he has a new pair of scissors from um yeah, from the Colin Taylor products. The thing is, is like I think now like we're definitely gonna have to like keep our ears and eyes out from now on because if anybody, if any of you guys listening knows of any new products that you really loved, drop a line. We want to hear about it. So let us know if there was any new products that you discovered this year. Okay, industry brand of the year.
SPEAKER_00Okay, another grooming group.
SPEAKER_03I don't think that's how it works, but okay. Well, I mean, there's our favorites Andis and it's Sumi.
SPEAKER_00And um I do think like the one that like is pushing itself out there, JirPet is like came out of nowhere, and now it's like you just know it now.
SPEAKER_02So I think that's pretty cool that they have been pushing really hard. Yeah, but I do awesome Anderson products and I would love for Grimloop to be nominated for Brand of the Year.
SPEAKER_07I feel like Nancy has been around for a while. Um, she's so generous, she's so nice, she's so sweet. Her products are so cute and colorful and work well, and work well, and I would love to see her on the on the ballot.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I would love to I agree with you.
SPEAKER_00Wherever we go, wherever we go, people are like, oh my god, I gotta have one of these leads.
SPEAKER_02Yes. So every time, I mean, obviously we travel a lot internationally. Every country we go to is like, let me see that loop. Because we always bring it with us just to make sure, just in case, right? And they're always like, let me see that. And then they're like, where do I get this? And I'm like, it's in America. I think she has an Etsy. You can order on Etsy, but like I'm trying, I'm trying so hard to get these loops in other countries for her because I haven't been to a country yet where the entire class hasn't been clamoring for it. Like, we want this. The quality is so high and so good. And you're absolutely right. Nancy is like, she was a groomer, you know, so like you're supporting a groomer and she like the quality. I was like, oh, it's another grooming loop.
SPEAKER_01Um we have one of those.
SPEAKER_02It is actually such high quality, it does its job really well. And I've never had one of that caliber before.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's holding its colours. She holds its color, and she's so sweet.
SPEAKER_02She's literally the nicest, most giving person. She's done so much.
SPEAKER_00I feel like you need to like because like we talk it up like it's so great and it is, but like it doesn't translate. You know what I mean? You have to like just see it and use it.
SPEAKER_02You have to see it. Uh, which we will have them for sale at our Super Zoo booth. So come buy them if you've been wondering. You know, another company that I feel like is also really giving, and a good company that doesn't get a lot of recognition is LaPooch. Uh, just as a quick shout out, I do feel like they don't get a lot of recognition, but they are a really good company, and anytime you reach out to them for help, their customer service is incredible. Ariel's Ariel, yeah. She's incredible and they're very giving.
SPEAKER_00I I think about that sometimes with Utsumi because like I've it kind of it it irks me a little bit when like because Utsumi comes out with like things that are a little innovative. I don't I don't mean to say a little innovative, but that are innovative, like the pink line, and then they had the the combs with the band in them, right? And like it's always like some other company with a knockoff of it getting nominated. You know what I mean? Like and I I'm like, well, yeah, Utsumi made that last year, but then they won't like I don't know. I feel like a lot of times they get looked over. They're the blueprint. Yeah, like they're like they're literally Yes. And um it just you know, I'd like to see them, I'd like to see Utsumi up there. I'd like to see Christy up there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, agreed.
SPEAKER_00But you know, um, I don't know. I feel bad talking about a little weird talking about because they're I work with them, but you know, but you work with them because they're a good company because of the integrity like that, yeah. Yeah. So when I see like a a comb, a fluffing comb with the thing in it, and they're like, Oh, we want this now, I'm like that's it'sumi's thing, but okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, fair enough.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right. So then the next one is general distributor of the year.
SPEAKER_07Oh shit. I would like to nominate uh petstore.direct. Yeah. I've been ordering from them pretty exclusively, probably for the last year now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_07And they're across the country, so it takes about a week for us to get it from over there to California. But they're prompt. Yeah, they're prompt. It ships out like as soon as I put the order in. Yeah. Um, they package everything really well. Like everything's like sealed so nothing breaks. They use like so much like foam and bubbles and or was it but pop, but what are they called? Nothing. Bubble rep. And yeah, they have everything. Every brand I like. If you sign up for a like a groomer account, it's cheaper than if you would just get it normally. Um, so that's my choice.
SPEAKER_03Well, you started using them as well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think we've been using them exclusively for the last year as well.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So and I've been happy with uh easy to order websites, easy to find. They mostly have everything in stock all the time. Um, yeah, customer service is good if you need to reach out. I've been happy with them. Yeah. No, they're great.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And the diff difference between that is like a there's a brand, like a singular brand, and then there's like the distributor, which distributes multiple, which is a brand, but they they like distribute a bunch of different brands, right? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So there I think there's a lot of them out there. It whoever you get your orders from, if you like them, nominate them.
SPEAKER_03Pet store.direct. Also, I really like the way their booths are organized at the show. Oh, so pretty. It's very pretty. It's always really crowded, though. Yeah, but that's a good thing for them.
SPEAKER_02And they're always really helpful. Like if I'm in a rush and I'm like, Nathan needs something right now, they're always super, super helpful.
SPEAKER_03So I appreciate multiple checkout stations, like that.
SPEAKER_07And they're so staffed, yeah, too. There's like so many people working willing to like help you.
SPEAKER_03Like, and they have so many of the things that we use and we like and all the brands that yeah, I appreciate their booths and having well stocked at shows.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, absolutely. Distributor maxing, distributor maxing.
SPEAKER_03They're distributing correctly.
SPEAKER_02Uh, then we've got sharpener of the year.
SPEAKER_07Sharpener of the year. I like to get my stuff sharpened locally. Um, I get my stuff sharpened by Sean Pangborn at SAS Sharpening. So that's who I would nominate because that's the only person I use. Um, he comes to me, he does mail-in stuff too. Um, but he does a good job. And he does like all kinds of scissors. He's certified with a few different companies, so he's like an authorized sharpener for a handful of companies. Um, so he does a good job. I like him.
SPEAKER_03So I also just used someone recently, uh Daxing. Um, I'm not sure that's how you say it properly, but he's newer to the area and he's an Alameda. Um, and Ashley introduced me to him and he just did some of my shears and he did a really good job.
SPEAKER_00Nice. Because when I think of sharpener, of like to be like there's only a handful of them in my mind that'll be like an in at least a countrywide thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That'll be that's yeah, it makes it tough.
SPEAKER_00Um, but one that I would like to see more get more love, if you could guess, it's Utsumi. You know, Utsumi sharpens uh if your favorite pair of shears is an Utsumi pair of shears and you send them in to get sharpened by Utsumi. Um I would strongly recommend you know nominating them because that's where I get my stuff sent. I send my stuff off to Utsumi.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I sent my Utsumi stuff only to Utsumi.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think a lot of people don't know that Christy herself does some of the sharpening. So there is so badass. Yeah, yeah. There is she does she does have one other sharpener that is um a really nice older gentleman, but they both do the sharpening. So I think it's really cool that the owner of the business actually does the work as well. I think that like speaks volumes because she knows the job. She's not just like, oh, I just sell scissors. Like she knows that inside and out. She can sharpen any pair of shears you give her, and she's good at it. So I think that's really badass that a I feel like we commonly consider a sharpener a male-dominated job, actually. Because how many female sharpeners do you guys know? Oh my god, let's still get this. Um, I mean, really though, right? How many female sharpeners do you guys know?
SPEAKER_00None. Christy, one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it's a woman-owned business.
SPEAKER_02I think that's pretty fucking badass. Yeah, it's a woman-owned business and she does the sharpening. That's like pretty kick-ass.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's very kicked.
SPEAKER_02If I say so myself.
SPEAKER_00I was there to like I was recording like her sharpening, and she's like, You can't record this. This is a secret. And I was like, oh, it's a secret. Uh like it was like one of the I guess I can't even say, but it has to do with sharpening.
SPEAKER_02We did, we did at a show have like an emergency sharpening need one time recently. Yeah. Do you remember who sharpened them? Because they did a great job as well. And I think it's a couple.
SPEAKER_00They might have won last year. I think they did. Is it persistent sharp?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Yeah. They did a great job. They're usually at the shows. So if something happens during competition and you need help, they will get on it quickly and get your shears back to you in the ring, even.
SPEAKER_00So I will say if I wasn't voting for Utsumi, it would probably be for them because, like, like um they're efficient, they're good at it. And uh it was a pair of Utsumi shears that I needed them sharpened, and I was like, uh, and she's they're like, We we're you know, obviously they're qualified, right? Yeah, they've been doing it for a long time. They like helped me out when I needed it.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, I believe I've used them at shows for emergencies. Yeah, and also I bring my blades to the shows now because I have trust issues. Yeah. And so for reels.
SPEAKER_00Well, unfortunately, with the industry, there is traveling sharpeners, and a lot of the traveling sharpeners, um, you'll get them like they where they show up at your salon and be like, hey, I'm a sharpener, and I'm I'm driving through the area. And like they just fuck your shit up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I'm not saying that's every single one of them, but or charge you eight hundred dollars. It's happened to me and took more than once. So the last one they disappeared, you never see them again, you know? Like I've heard of those.
SPEAKER_02Um, okay, so the next is the Brian Stoppa Congeniality Award. Um, and so for anybody who doesn't know, Brian Stoppa was um Jackie Bolton's husband, and he has passed away, but he was from what everybody says, he was just the nicest guy you'd ever met. And he was super helpful to everybody at the shows, and so that's why they have an award for that. Um every time I say um, I think about it now.
SPEAKER_01I'm like, son of a bitch.
SPEAKER_03Well, I always think Jill every year. I know she's been on there a little bit. She's just so sweet. I just love Jill. And also Kelsey Ann. Yeah, she's really nice. Sweet and I just yeah, so many people.
SPEAKER_02I know I've said her name a lot, but Jovi is also somebody that I think is very underrated, and she's super nice. She's always been really kind to us. And I think he's won it before, but Jay Scruggs is also really, really nice. He's he actually taught us how to play roulette at Master Groom Canada, and he was very patient with us as we tried to figure it out.
SPEAKER_00I was like, what kind of rules are there? I mean, what kind of strategy? There is no fucking strategy.
SPEAKER_02No, there is a strategy, but we're not gonna share it. No, it he's super sweet. But there's a I think there's a lot of really nice people.
SPEAKER_00What about Sue Zecko?
SPEAKER_02Because Sue is so nice.
SPEAKER_00Sue and Jay people all like I think uh people like think of uh Jay more, but Sue is like so nice. She's so sweet, she is really, really sweet.
SPEAKER_07Um I would like to uh throw another grooming podcast into the mix for this one because I feel like we have built such a relationship with our listeners, and they tell us that like that we're our you know, we're always so nice and inspiring, and like we're always so like people come up to us and give us hugs, and I could we spend so much time talking to these people and I love interacting with them, and we're nice to everybody, so why not throw us in there, you know? Yeah, Jay and Congenial, get out, yeah.
SPEAKER_00No, no, you lost my vote. Now it's goes to me. Now it goes to another grooming button. Another vote. I didn't think about that. No, neither did I. Just came to me.
unknownJust came to me.
SPEAKER_02There are really a lot of really nice people, so tons.
SPEAKER_00But when you said um go ahead. When you said uh what's I remember blanking on her name.
SPEAKER_03Kelsey.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, when you said when you said Kelsey, I was like, oh yeah, that'd be actually a good one. Because I see her more now. She does like the groomer TV. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03She's just so full of life and so much fun, so sweet. Yeah. But there's so many people, and you base it off your interactions with people, right? Who made you felt feel loved and welcomed and all that, you know? Mm-hmm. Showed you kindness. I'm gonna put you now. I'm gonna put cat. I don't go to enough shows either.
SPEAKER_05It doesn't matter. Why does it have to be someone super big named? You know what I mean? You do so much for us, and you're congenial, and when you're at the shows and all that, if there was a thing for dog shows, you would win. You would a hundred percent win. Well, you did.
SPEAKER_07We didn't we didn't mention it, but you at the Bishon Nationals you got sportsmanship of the year. That was like congeniality for the Bishon people.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, because you are so nice and so helpful and so everything. I try. I'm a bitch inside.
SPEAKER_07Uh you guys were nominated last year. You could have got nominated again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it would be nice. You guys were on there together, right? Yeah, we were on there together. That was the first time we've been nominated for something together, so that was nice.
SPEAKER_00I feel like I feel I feel like you're very good. I feel like we can't win that for some reason. It just feels like it's good to be. I don't know I feel like if there's anything I'd be happy being nominated for and not winning. Yeah, it's that.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, because it's because I feel like it's just people saying that you're nice.
SPEAKER_00You're not gonna be like, Because I think, yeah, like right on. But I feel like if other things you get nominated and you lose and you're like, oh man, I really wish I would have. But that one, I feel like just nominated is good enough.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Well, because it's yeah, how congenial of you.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_02Well, but I agree. That that's true. Yeah, just to be recognized as sweet. Yeah, it was really nice to be nominated for. I do, I feel like we are at a lot of different things and we spend a lot of time talking to people, and you know, so it it's nice.
SPEAKER_00But I also feel like I don't do like I feel like we've really like fell off on the like uh answering questions and stuff. So I feel I just feel guilty about it. So I just don't feel deserved right now.
SPEAKER_02I I do think so. We talked about this at Master Groom Canada, and it goes back into saying, like, how Nathan was saying um he's trying hard not to fall off on content craving, right? And I was saying we're we're getting like burnt out and we're trying really hard to fight through it. And so I know we've always prided ourselves on answering messages as much as we can. I have been struggling to answer messages. We have a we get a lot of messages, and sometimes they require a long answer, or I have to sit there and really think about how to phrase it because if I think it's led to a couple of messages or people were like, oh, you know, I thought you like, but and and like it's understandable where we're at right now. We're trying though. It's not that I'm like, oh, I don't want to answer that. It's like I have to sit there and think about the answer because if somebody's asking me a question about a dog, I can't just go, well, let me show you on this dog, like because it doesn't work that way.
SPEAKER_00I have 20 minutes of my limited time day.
SPEAKER_02About yeah, how I respond to it. It takes time for me to type it out. And I unfortunately just don't have enough time in the day between running the three businesses, the two children, my show dogs, the competitions, the teaching, the content creation.
SPEAKER_00The list goes on forever.
SPEAKER_02Like I just I'm running out of time and I apologize for anybody who has reached out to us and didn't know. No, I don't want to say that yet.
SPEAKER_00I don't want to say that yet. Because I feel like there is gonna be a time when we feel more energized and we'll be like, hey, if you did message us in the past, message us again. But I don't want to say that because honestly, don't message us again right now. I don't know. Because like it's too much. At this moment, it's too much.
SPEAKER_02But I'm just saying, like, I apologize to anybody who's reached out and hasn't gotten an answer because it's not on purpose. We're not ignoring you. I know they're there and it weighs heavily on me every day that I haven't gotten to those. And then they pile up. I mean, they pile up and it gets more and more than that.
SPEAKER_00When you go on like just the Instagram alone, if you go on like just like unread, there's like over a thousand of them. And I'm really sorry.
SPEAKER_02Like, what do you do with crying? I'm but I'm overwhelmed. Literally, just to answer those, that would be like days, weeks, weeks, weeks, months. Oh my god. And so I do apologize to anybody that we haven't gotten to because I try, but I'm overwhelmed and burnt out a little.
SPEAKER_05She doesn't even message us back. It's all good.
SPEAKER_02It's kidding, it's kidding. That's just one messaged me the other day about a question about a sponsor, and I didn't get back to him. And it was I read it, I was just feeling overwhelmed at the time. Yeah, I did eventually get back to him, but it took normally I'm a very quick responder. And so I think that you can tell how stressed I am or overwhelmed by how long it takes me to respond.
SPEAKER_03Yes, uh, sometimes I worry she's dead if she doesn't respond to me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm generally very quick. So um Yes. Do you have a question, sir?
SPEAKER_05Yes. Um, I'm gonna go hang out with Owen until we have to leave because he wants me to hang out afterwards, but we can't stay. So I'm gonna go now and spend some time with him.
SPEAKER_02I'm like, you've probably got 10 minutes.
SPEAKER_05That's a lie. You guys are gonna be talking about it. You have to transfer the fitness. You have time. Go. Anyways, I'm letting you know I'm gonna go hang out with that one.
SPEAKER_02Thanks for spending time with my child. He loves you. Um, okay, so anyway, now that we've done that little spin-off, it just weighed heavily on my mind. So this was a good time to bring it up.

SPEAKER_02The next category is Creative Groomer of the Year. And so that is, again, another one that we don't get to nominate for. That's based off of placements, right, Ronnie?
SPEAKER_05Yes, yes, it's based off placements.
SPEAKER_07Because if we could, I would nominate Ronnie Rivera.
SPEAKER_02I love you guys. Thank you. We love you.
SPEAKER_05It's so crazy. I mean, I've only competed once, but it felt like it was like two years ago. It doesn't still feel like it's this year. It was the beginning of this year at Pasadena, but it felt like it felt like it was like a lifetime ago. Like that's crazy.
SPEAKER_02But this is based off of open placements only, correct? Is it points or is it like just I think it's first places?
SPEAKER_05I think it's the amount of placements. So you have to to be on the ballot, I believe, you have to place at a Barkley show. Okay. So technically placing at um yeah, but her she's the first one of the year, technically. So if you get first place and open in there, technically you should be on the ballot for next year. I think Alyssa Casiva's gonna be on there because she's been killing it with her nightmare before Christmas design, which is great because she loves that show. So like she personally wants to. It's a movie. Yeah, it's a movie. It is a movie. I'm sorry. She loves it so much, so it's great to see her doing so well with that design. Yeah. But I'm I if she's not on there, that would be crazy. But my vote goes for Alyssa Casiva.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, because we will get to vote for it later. So we don't get to do the nomination. Yes, we don't get to nominate. We do get to do the vote.
SPEAKER_00The same as the up and coming vote. Did she do Nightmare Before Christmas before?
SPEAKER_05I think it was like a long time ago, but it wasn't like doing now. You know what I mean? Revamped, yeah. Yeah, it's like redone. There's a there's a couple other people who've done it as well. Yeah, I know we mentioned it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know we mentioned it earlier, but Evan, I do think we should add up and coming creative groomer next year. Yeah. So take that under advisement.
SPEAKER_00I I really like that Lord of the Rings thing too. I think that's that one is pretty freaking cool. Every time I see it, I'm like, oh, it's actually pretty sick.
SPEAKER_02Lord of the Rings is very near and dear to your heart. So I really like the headpiece on that one. There's been a lot of really cool ones because I liked the clue one a lot too. That I just I really like the hat because it's plaid. And I feel like that must be so hard to do plaid.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. I think that's all airbrushed too. Yeah. So it's like standing there and doing that. I suck at airbrush. So that's amazing.
SPEAKER_03It's amazing the talent that goes into creative grooming, you know, airbrushing and not only setting the patterns and like I can barely dye freaking ears and tail properly. I always feel like they're uneven or you know, not saturated properly or whatever. Right. So, like just the awe in how they do everything. It's amazing.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's very expensive too. Oh those opas, this it's not cheap, y'all. No, it's not. And you have to reapply that color, especially before you go to a show and maintenance and a lot.
SPEAKER_02I feel like that's why the prize is so big for creative. Because at first I was like, oh my god, like they win so much money. But then I'm like, the dye alone is so expensive. Y'all need it.
SPEAKER_05Does anyone get free dye? Probably. Maybe if you're like a telephone, I'm sure somebody does.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, but I do think adding it up and coming to Creative Grimmer would be really helpful because more and more shows before there was just one category and that's it. But more and more shows are doing entry and open, and then some shows are throwing an intermediate in there. So I mean, if they have different categories, why not have two different categories for Barkley honors?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I feel like they should. The next category is contribution to the industry. I feel like we've had a lot of, you know, like because I think Terry's won it before, right? I feel like Jace and Jay and Sue have won it before. At least been nominated. Or at least been nominated. Um I I'm trying to think of who else has been nominated and won for that.
SPEAKER_03So there's Was that the one that um oh my god, why is this name? Ren in them.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yes, yeah. Ren and his wife for their photography. Lynn Yah, yeah, Ren and Lynn. That's a pretty big category. They won. Yeah. It's a big category, but I feel like it should be another grooming podcast. Somebody who's affected your life, right? Like somebody who's maybe with you every week.
SPEAKER_00But maybe someone that feels like a friend.
SPEAKER_02Or family. Friend family.
SPEAKER_07Your best friend that pushes you, inspires you, teaches you.
SPEAKER_02We'll give you a Z at the show.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I feel like makes you laugh. There's some obvious ones out there we're not thinking of, right? But like uh I think you should just do whatever inspires you, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean, it should be somebody who you feel like has made a difference in the industry.
SPEAKER_00Which is a very long list.
SPEAKER_02There's all it's a very long list. There's a lot of really great judges out there who I think, you know, judges and teachers who have done a lot for the industry, um, a lot of industry leaders out there. So I'll I am I am always very interested to see who gets nominated because it's usually like the list is um pretty cool, you know.
SPEAKER_07And kind of like what you were saying with congeniality, like I feel like this is one of them that if you get nominated for, it's like, oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's I agree with you.
SPEAKER_07Being nominated for that one would be really cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I agree with you on that. And then uh up and coming groomer of the year, that's another one that we don't get to nominate. It's the judges. So that one is your judges for the year. So anybody who's competed this year, your judges are gonna look back and think like who was a standout, who made an impression on me, who's been, you know, competing or improving drastically, or whatever the case is, they're gonna nominate you. I don't This one's always interesting. I don't think we get to I don't think we vote on that. I think again the judges vote on that. Yeah. But they still post it for everybody to see who is nominated, which is really cool. Uh both of you were nominated previously, right? Kat and Nathan. Very cool. Neither of them won it, right? But the nomination was the again, another one that is like just cool to be nominated. Totally. Then there is Judge of the Year. So that one is a really cool one as well, because if you had a judge that you felt like gave you a really great critique or gave you your favorite placement or whatever, you liked their judging style for the year. Maybe they knew how to brush your dog properly and nobody else did, you know.
SPEAKER_00So that's that's actually one I really want. But I I don't, and I'm not saying, hey, vote for me because I don't think it'd be appropriate because Barkley. We haven't judged a Barkley show. We've only judged a few times in other countries, but that's one I want in the future. Someday someday.
SPEAKER_02That's a goal of ours. That's a that's a future goal. We're not ready to start judging in America yet because we're holding out. I want to compete, we're competing, but we have judged in other countries, and I love it. I really, really love it.
SPEAKER_03And that's something that only competitors vote for.
SPEAKER_02That is some, yes, you're right. Only only competitors vote for that. So they send it out to people who have competed this year. I think probably since last Hershey.
SPEAKER_03I think it goes Hershey to Hershey, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So anybody who has competed should receive a special email ballot ballot for nominations and voting. So very cool. So keep an eye peeled because you'll get your regular nomination ballot. Like everybody will get one that's on the mailing list, but then only people that have come have competed will get that special judges. And then last but certainly not least, they save this one for the very last. And it is groomer of the year. And so this is another one that's not nominated by anybody or voted by anybody. This is based off of points. So, to the best of my knowledge, it's best in show and best all around. But they might have switched it, so it's only best in show and best all arounds don't count. I can't remember. And I believe it's only Barkley shows. But um So Nadia. I don't Anna's gotten a lot of best in shows this year, so I I don't know. It's point-based. So generally if you really, really pay attention, you'll know who wins ahead of time. They do count the Hershey, I believe.
SPEAKER_00I think it's Hershey to Hershey, like a lot of them. Yes. Yeah, can you imagine you don't know until right then?
SPEAKER_02Well, only if it's that close. Sometimes it's obvious. Like I think Nadia's won, I think the last couple years, and it was like she was so far ahead.
SPEAKER_03I remember like one of my first Hershey's, I went up to Lindsay and said, Oh, are you excited? You're you might win Groomer of the Year, and she's like, Oh no, it's already it's it's Mackenzie or whatever. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And we were like, What do you mean?
SPEAKER_03So what's yeah, what's the point of uh you know having them all I guess to recognize the top four?
SPEAKER_02I feel like only the open competitors really pay attention to that though, that are like trying for groom team or whatnot. I guess so. Yeah, because I didn't pay attention. I didn't know.
SPEAKER_03I was like, oh okay.
SPEAKER_02And it's still yeah, an honor to go up and win and to be nominated. And so anyway, that's it. That's the list.
SPEAKER_03If you have unless they add anything this year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, if you have, you know, I'm hot, any nominations that you think we missed, yeah, let us know. We'd love to hear them.
SPEAKER_07I think uh people should put them in the comments on YouTube and Spotify because you can comment under the videos on both. That way other people that are watching the videos can see what you guys say.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, other people's ideas, because these are just our opinions.
SPEAKER_00Or comment uh or comment it on another grooming group.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, that too. Also, if there's any categories you think they should add, I'd be super interested if anybody had any like interesting categories. That's a cool idea. Yeah, and just because, right? I'm sure Evan's always looking for new fun things. They've taken a few things away and added a few things over the last couple years, so I know they're always trying to keep it fresh.
SPEAKER_03I hope they don't like remove anything.
SPEAKER_02It's probably like a balance podcast.
SPEAKER_00It's probably a balance though, because like they wanna like Barclay wants to elevate people that are you know obviously paying for them. Yeah. So like distributors and people that have booths are the main money source, right? So, like, how do you like but you also want to make it entertaining for groomers? Yeah, but it's like how do you elevate both, you know?
SPEAKER_02I think they're doing a great job of it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I mean, if it was, I mean, if it was up to me, Barkley Honors would have been like just double it, make it even longer. I'll sit there. We love it. Yeah, and I have a good time. It's such a funny as long as the drinks keep flowing.
SPEAKER_02I do want to also remind anybody who is going, you do have to buy your ticket to the dinners separately. Have you guys bought your tickets? We have not. Um, but you can like come in and watch the show. You just like won't have a seat if you don't buy a ticket, but you can like stand in the back. The other thing is for anybody who gets nominated and wins their category. Last year for the very first time, we did a Barkley honors like after show. After show. And it was it was a little bit hectic because it was our first time and we were figuring things out. This year we're planning on doing it better and quicker so we can go party afterwards because we missed the party trying to do all our interviews. So if you win, we will be set up. We only will have a couple of quick questions for you and let you get on your way. So take your photo with Ren with your beautiful medallion and then come straight to us. Couple questions, send you on your way to party. Pretty they are. Yeah. So heavy too. So just uh please work with us, you know. Last year we had to like hunt people down, and I know it was the first year, so nobody really realized and we weren't in the best of spots. We're gonna do better this year. So don't run away from us. Come and answer our questions so we don't have to hunt you down.
SPEAKER_07A cool thing. Yeah. You'll see us. You'll see us.
SPEAKER_02If you come to Superzoo, you get a preview of it.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So just as an FYI for any winners out there that are listening. All right. Well, that's our episode. Thank you so much for tuning in, and we'll see you next time. Bye. Or at SuperZoo.
